At the office of Michael Sohl, DDS in Stuart, Florida, we use all digital diagnostic tools, including digital X-rays, because we believe that they provide the best experience for you and give us the best way to help you see and prevent dental problems. Rather than relying on the older models of X-rays, which used lots of radiation and provided us with only mediocre pictures of the health of your teeth and jaw, we use all digital radiography for safety, speed and improved care.
Lowered Exposure to Radiation
One of the main concerns that our patients mention when they need to get X-rays taken in our office is the amount of radiation to which they will be exposed. Too much radiation can actually cause chronic disease. However, you should know that digital X-rays eliminate much of that concern. Usually, this type of X-ray eliminates around 70 percent of the radiation associated with traditional X-rays and may eliminate as much as 80 percent. Plus, digital X-rays are quite accurate, meaning that we rarely, if ever, need to retake our X-rays, further decreasing radiation concerns.
Decreased Environmental Concerns
Traditional X-rays must be processed with a variety of chemicals to show the black-and-white picture on film. Digital X-rays are processed on the computer, eliminating the need for chemicals, which can be harmful to the environment. We also reduce the wastage of film.
Traditional X-rays take a bit of time to process before being sent up to us. However, a digital X-ray appears on our computer screen nearly instantaneously. This is nice for us, but it also lets you reduce your time spent in our office. We know you lead a busy life and are interested in saving time wherever you go.
If a traditional X-ray did not turn out well, it would need to be retaken. If we do not initially get a high-quality digital image, we can often improve it using our computer program. We can enlarge the picture and adjust contrast and brightness of the picture to better see your dental structures. Thus, we can see small issues more easily to help you prevent future problems.
At the office of Michael Sohl, DDS in Stuart, we focus on constantly improving our care for each patient’s betterment. Our digital X-rays help us give you quick service that is incredibly safe and lets us help you prevent larger problems from occurring.
